From the Firefly Brigade Forum:
Earth Hour is a global movement to raise awareness about climate change. It offers an opportunity for individuals to take concrete action that collectively, will make a significant impact in the growing fight against global warming.
Earth Hour Philippines is an initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines) , the Presidential Task Force on Climate Change (PTFCC) and the GREEN Army. Earth Hour is a symbolic even tthat reflects the commitment of all Filipinos to fight global warming. As this is a global event, we want to show the world that The Philippines is committed to fighting global warming.
There are already a number of cities, organizations, business establishments all over the Philippines who have committed to be part of the Earth Hour. One of the main highlights of the Earth Hour in the Philippines is the shutting off of lights along the whole stretch of Roxas Boulevard.
The ceremony for the evening of March 29 will be on the lawn in front of CCP on Roxas Boulevard . There will be live music, big screens, global warmingeducational materials, fire dancers, food stalls, poetry readings and more.
The Firefly Brigade and all other bikers will be there to help in creating a festive vibe, grab the attention of passer-bys and encourage participation of establishments along the stretch of Roxas Boulevard . We will bike along the stretch of Roxas Boulevard, from Manila to Parañaque, from 7 to 8 pm holding Earth Hour flags and tarps and making announcements over the megaphone about switching off lights for Earth Hour from 8 to 9 pm.
The Firefly Brigade is happy to be involved in Earth Hour as this has an added benefit of highlighting the fun of non-motorized forms of travel.

any update about this? alam mo when we were in manila last month, i cant keep but wonder how you bikers could keep up with those brooming motorsiklos — grabe, kakatakot mag drive sa pinas… mas okay na yung bisikleta kesa sa mga de motor na akala nila e sila na ang hari sa kalsada. ilang aksidente ang nakita ko involving them and other vehicles or with pedestrians.
Hi Kengkay,
How was your trip pabalik dyan?
I was still recovering from an illness, so I can’t give any details as to what happened. I will ask those who joined the ride and post some pictures kung meron, dito. Thanks and have a nice day!
