A Pinoy Biker’s Philippine Rural Adventures

The National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW), in coordination with the Inter-Agency Council on Violence Against Women (IACVAWC), the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) and the Violence Against Women Coordinating Committee (VAWCC) will once again lead this year’s observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) from November 25 to December 12.

The Philippines has participated in this world-wide campaign to eliminate VAW since 2002. This year’s campaign shall focus on providing better services for VAW victims-survivors. We are preparing a line-up of activities, the first of which is Bike Against VAW to be held on November 25, 2007 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle, and will tentatively be followed by a program at the Quezon City Hall flagpole area .

This activity is open to all stakeholders and other interested parties in the fight against VAW. It conveys the message that the campaign for the protection of human rights of women against violence and all forms of discrimination is a concern not only of women but of all sectors of society.

Please note the following:

1. Assembly and registration will be at 6:00 am at the Peace Bell Area, Quezon Memorial Circle. Enter through the gate facing East Avenue.

2. Those bringing their own cars will have to pay a parking fee of P10.00.

3. For those who will not actually ride bikes, they can form part of the spectators, and wave their flaglets for the riders.

4. Upon registration, participants will be given instruction notes, bottled water, and flaglets to be displayed on their bikes.

5. Biking will run from 6:30 am to 7:30 am around the Quezon Memorial Circle.

6. Biking lane (yellow lane) will be secured for the bikers (with the assistance of the PNP and the QC government).

7. By 7:30 am, participants will bike back to the Peace Bell and park their bikes at the nearby designated area.

8. Rest time will be for 30 minutes.

9.  The program will start at 8:00 am and is expected to end at 9:00 am.

10. Snacks will be served.
