One factor that contributed to my present heart ailment is diabetes. I knew I had it as far back as 12 years ago. At that time, I did not feel anything that would alarm me much. Yes a routine blood sugar test showed higher than normal results but since I felt just fine, I did not do anything at all. Diet and exercise were alien practices for me.

My mother had diabetes. She religiously took her medicines, had regular check up with her doctor. She was able to control her diabetes alright but in the end, she died of cancer. I don’t know if it actually contributed to her cancer. Yet now I know diabetes can cause death.

world diabetes dayThe United Nations has proclaimed November 14 as World Diabetes Day. And in line with this, the Philippine Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (PSEM) is organizing a 20 kilometer fun bike ride on Sunday, November 11, 2007. This activity aims to increase awareness on diabetes and promote prevention programs to stop diabetes and related disorders such as hypertension and obesity. According to PSEM, studies show that the best prevention to diabetes is through healthy diet and regular exercise.

    Very informative post…

My mom is a cancer survivor but still have diabetes…that is why I am always reminding her to take her medications and watch her diet.

You are blessed Becca, your Mom survived, yet the fight is not yet over…you yourself also need to take care, ok. Have a nice day.
