A Pinoy Biker’s Philippine Rural Adventures

Andy Warhol said that everybody deserves their fifteen minutes of fame.

But for those who consider fame as their motivation to go on living, fifteen minutes don’t suffice at all. But for a simple biker like me, fifteen minutes of fame means a lot. If given this chance, I would tell the whole world to listen to what nature is telling us. I will encourage people to do something positive to make the air we breathe cleaner. If I have the resources, I will give each person a bike. Our environment needs our help so that it can continue regenerating herself and be as vigorous as before in her life-giving work. Anyone who contributes to these efforts will have humanity indebted to them.

From Yenny, I received a “blog of the month award”. Now that’s a thousand times more than fifteen minutes of fame for me! I should be glad, and I am too. Thank you Yenny for this beautiful award.

But I ask who is listening to me? Who will pay attention to me during a whole month? Who is heeding our call in the Firefly Brigade as we advocate for the bike and clean air for the last ten years? I have been with the Fireflies for just over two years only but I have been sharing their ideals years before I have even come into contact with them.  There are others, I’m sure who are just like me: people who do their share in cleaning up the air we breathe; riding their bikes to work so as to avoid or at least to limit, driving fossil-fuel gulping cars and SUV’s; using the most energy-efficient lighting available; recycling and segregating garbage, etc.  When are they going to get their fifteen minutes of fame so that people will hear them and follow their examples?

In this light then, I am inclined to pass this award to only one blogger, from several whom I know works at being part of the solution instead of being the problem, and one whom I see as an exemplar in their regard for the environment and its preservation.  But I would also offer this month’s worth of fame to any taker, who knows he or she is such kind of a blogger.
