From the flyers distributed by the Firefly Brigade:
Put some fun between your legs and take a break from high oil prices, traffic jams, and dirty air! On Saturday, September 22, bicycles will take to the streets of Metro Manila to show what roads could be without the noise and bustle of cars!
HELP CLEAN OUR CITY’S AIR!
Pedal power around the city. A third of trips taken in the city are shorter than two kilometers and add to both traffic congestion and pollution. These are ideal for bike travel.
Walk, use public transportation, car pool. Take an opportunity to rediscover our city and bond with buddies.
Help designate car free zones and days, like UP’s tree-lined academic oval on Sundays. Doing so lets families, cyclists, joggers, and senior citizens run, bike and stroll without any worry about cars hitting them.
Use our cars less. Save money, energy and time, avoid stress, and cause less pollution.
